Your Role
The (BSA) Business Systems Analyst’s role is to plan, design, develop, and launch efficient business information systems in support of core organizational functions and business processes. This includes gathering and analyzing data in support of business cases, proposed projects, and systems requirements, including system configurations. The BSA is also responsible for generating and compiling reports based on the findings, complete with probable causes and possible solutions to systems issues. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help maximize the benefit of IT system investments. The BSA will support the existing production environment and participate in current and future development projects. The individual will analyze moderate to complex system and functionality-related problems in our insurance business systems.
What you bring to the position
Education & Certification
• Post secondary education in business administration, computer science, or management information systems.
• Guidewire Policy Center Ace Certification.
Knowledge & Experience
• 10 years experience in P&C Insurance as a BSA
• 5 years experience as a Guidewire Policy Center BSA
• Knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Windows platforms.
• Knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards.
• Experience in importing data for report software, spreadsheets, graphs, and flow charts.
• Extensive experience with Policy Management Systems, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Visio and Microsoft Project Professional.
• Proven experience in the operation and analysis of database hardware, software, and standards, as well as data retrieval methodologies and mainframe applications.
• Demonstrated project management skills: experience working as part of Agile Delivery Team.
• Ability to work on multiple projects and adapt to changes.
• Hands-on experience working on Agency Bill, Broker Fees, and Commission.
• Hands-on experience working with project team on defining and managing project scope.
• Able to identify project issues/roadblocks and steps for mitigation and resolution.

What you will do
Strategy & Planning
• Meet with decision makers, systems owners, and business users to define business and operations requirements, identify and resolve systems issues.
• Review and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
• Identify and establish scope and parameters of systems analysis to define outcome criteria and measure-taking actions.
• Design and implement short-term tactical plans for managing and maintaining corporate systems and software.
• Ensure that proposed and existing systems architectures are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
• Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
• Prioritize work requests with system owners.
• Create and execute work release plans.
• Revise and communicate the proposed work release plan with the system owners.
• Identify required resources to execute work release plan.
• Assign work requests to resources.
• Report the budget and resource planning to the portfolio manager according to estimated work release plan.
• Provide application support on production issues by applying knowledge, experience, logic and insight.
Operational Management
• Prepare and deliver reports, recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas in in-house and software products across the organization.
• Meet with business users to gather, analyze and produce the Business Requirements Specification.
• Conduct the validation and obtain approval of the Business Requirement Specification with the business users and system owners.
• Monitor and report the progress of the work release plan to the system owners.
• Participate with the business in preparation of the cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
• Create systems models, business requirement specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to Application Developers.
• Define the test plan, create and execute test cases.
• Coordinate definition of test cases for User Acceptance Testing. Oversee test results.
• Provide orientation and training, including creation of training material, to business users for all modified and new systems.
• Provide guidance and/or instruction to junior staff members and external stakeholders.
• Document and support the company’s existing business workflow processes; make recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives.
• Collaborate in the planning, design, development, and deployment of new applications, and enhancements to existing applications.
• Respond to user request to resolve issues with a reasonable timeframe.
• Categorize, reproduce and troubleshoot issues using advanced techniques with an in-depth understanding of the system in question, requiring a strong level of analysis and creative thinking.
• Assign unresolved issues to appropriate resources for further analysis.
• Track and record fixes for identified/reported issues.
• Schedule and manage in-house system configuration and upgrades.
