In this dynamic, fast-paced role, you’ll serve as a data visualization expert on our data services team at Minnesota IT Services (MNIT), partnering with Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to develop and support data visualizations that leverage the full power of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and BI tools. This position requires an employee to be onsite at 625 Robert Street N. St. Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis. Employees will be required to meet current telework eligibility requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify, candidates must clearly show all of the following qualifications in their resume. Resume tips available here:

Position requires a minimum of two (2) years of IT related experience in Business Intelligence (BI) technologies.

Experience must include:

  • Developing and refining Tableau and Power BI reports in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Troubleshooting and user support of existing reporting in Tableau and Power BI.
  • Transitioning reporting and analytic processes from one BI tool to another; including investigation into existing reports, equivalent functionality testing in another tool, and implementation of the planned transition.
  • SQL querying experience with at least two of the following engines: MySQL, Oracle, Athena, Redshift, PostgreSQL and/or SQL Server.
  • Writing and interpreting data transformations in Python and R.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner that facilitates mutual understanding.
  • Customer-focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution-oriented problem-solving to deliver positive user experiences.

Education in Information Technology (IT) or an IT related field may substitute for experience as follows: a master’s degree for eighteen (18) months of experience; a bachelor’s degree for one (1) year; and an associate’s degree for six (6) months.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with AWS data lake architecture (S3, Glue, Athena).
  • Professional experience working with DevOps principles and Change Management in a production AWS data environment.
  • Tableau Server Administrator or Power BI Administrator experience.
  • Experience applying one or more of the following aspects of data governance: quality, integration, security, lifecycle management, stewardship, metadata management.
  • Ability to cope with ambiguity or change.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing or reviewing data visualizations according to Accessibility standards and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) guidelines.
  • Experience applying data visualization best practices in professional or academic projects.
