The Free Press is seeking a Data & Business Analyst to serve as the primary point person for all data-related needs across the organization. This is a unique opportunity for a driven individual to join a rapidly growing independent media company and make a meaningful impact. As the sole data professional, you will play a vital role in empowering teams across Editorial, Audience Development, Product, Marketing, and Business Leadership with actionable insights and tools. Responsibilities

    • Develop and maintain a comprehensive suite of dashboards and visual reports for internal teams, tracking KPIs such as traffic, subscriptions, conversions, downloads, and engagement.
    • Provide in-depth analysis and ad hoc reports to support strategic decision-making across Product, Editorial, and Business functions.
    • Partner with key stakeholders to optimize strategies and initiatives aimed at audience growth, engagement, and loyalty.
    • Translate complex data insights into actionable recommendations and effectively communicate these to non-technical audiences.
    • Support the development and execution of data-driven tests and campaigns to achieve our ambitious growth and engagement goals.
    • Work with our engineering team to manage and improve data pipelines, proper tagging and reporting systems, ensuring accuracy, scalability, and reliability.
    • Write and optimize SQL queries to support custom data analysis and reporting needs.
    • Explore opportunities to leverage additional tools and platforms, such as Generative AI, to enhance analytical capabilities.

Qualifications

    • 2-4 years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a related field, ideally within a digital media or subscription-based business.
    • Proficiency in SQL and experience building dashboards using tools like Hex, Periscope, Looker, or similar platforms.
    • Familiarity with web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Parsely, Snowplow) and a solid understanding of online business models and strategies.
    • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills; Python or R experience is a plus.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a proactive and adaptable mindset.
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present data insights clearly to diverse stakeholders.
    • Self-motivated and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, start-up environment.
