We are currently looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join our Financial Accounting and Reporting Team. In this position, you will report to the Manager, Finance, and you will be responsible for supporting the financial and reporting activities of Corporate Finance at the Hospital for Sick Children. This position will provide a unique opportunity to work closely with all Finance departments across the Hospital. Here's What You'll Get To Do

  • Assist with the preparation of consolidated monthly financial packages and dashboards for management to facilitate the decision making and financial reporting process.
  • Prepare financial month-end journal entries, budget and forecast adjustments, account reconciliations and variance analyses relevant to assigned portfolios.
  • Oversee the month-end process by working with team members to implement improvements for journal entries, account reconciliations and other month-end processes.
  • Lead the preparation of materials to support the Balance Sheet Oversight process and coordinate with other teams on the reconciliation and monitoring of balance sheet accounts.
  • Take ownership of and lead in the preparation of external reporting requirements including submissions to the Ministry of Health and the Hospital for Sick Children Foundation.
  • Meet with vested interest within and outside of finance to advise on their financial needs and assist with the development of business cases or process improvements.
  • Liaise with the external audit team and internal finance teams to coordinate audit requests and procedures for the annual consolidated financial statement audit and special audits.
  • Prepare note disclosures, memos with in-depth accounting analyses and working papers for the consolidated financial statements.
  • Actively participate and provide support in financial planning discussions by gathering accurate information in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Proactively identify risks and opportunities, challenge the status-quo, and discuss efficient process changes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and perform other duties as required.

Essential Requirements

Here's What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • Completion of a recognized accounting designation (i.e., CPA)
  • 3-5 years financial accounting experience in a large, complex organization.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface with department managers, external auditors, and all levels within the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, organized, proactive, results-oriented, and able to deliver on tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to working in team-based environments.
  • Passion for process simplification and improvement.
  • Ability to design, prepare and analyze financial reports.
  • Highly computer literate and proficient with the MS office suite, especially Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives.

Assets

  • Prior experience with indirect tax (GST/HST filings, Public Service Bodies' Rebate).
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft, Adaptive Insights, Qlikview and/or PowerBI.
  • Prior experience within the public sector and sound knowledge of PSAB and not-for-profit accounting standards.
  • External audit experience.
