Position Description

The Senior Financial Analyst (Hospice Finance Business Partner, Commissions & Sales Support) serves as a critical strategic and operational finance leader embedded directly within the Hospice service line. This role is responsible for driving financial performance, budgeting, and corporate reporting for hospice operations, acting as a trusted advisor to clinical, regional, and business development leadership.

This position functions as a premier finance partner to the sales and business development teams, providing proactive sales enablement, ROI evaluations on marketing initiatives, territory profitability analysis, and pipeline insights. Additionally, this role completely owns the end-to-end commission and incentive compensation lifecycles—ensuring that sales enablement strategies align perfectly with accurate payouts, growth metrics, data integrity, and healthcare compliance guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning, Operational Partnering & Hospice Metrics

  • Hospice Operational Partnership: Partner with clinical directors, regional vice presidents, and corporate leaders to provide strategic financial guidance, manage hospice Revenue & OPEX budgets, and support program expansions.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Own and maintain robust financial models to drive the annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and long-range planning processes for hospice programs and branches.
  • Hospice Metrics & Scenario Modeling: Run ad-hoc scenario analyses to evaluate the financial impact of changes in patient volumes, regulatory reimbursement models, Medicare cap limitations, and operational changes.
  • Headcount & Labor Optimization: Oversee the financial tracking and forecasting of clinical and administrative personnel expenses, optimizing direct care labor hours and headcount planning in alignment with HR and payroll.

Sales Enablement & Commercial Support

  • Sales Performance Analytics: Provide dedicated financial support to the sales and business development teams, tracking referral pipelines, conversion rates, and account executive productivity to identify growth opportunities.
  • Territory & Market Profitability: Analyze geographic market trends, provider referral patterns, and account-level profitability to guide sales leadership in territory planning and resource allocation.
  • ROI & Growth Strategy: Evaluate the financial return on marketing spend, community outreach initiatives, and business development programs to maximize admissions growth efficiency.

Incentive Compensation & Commission Ownership

  • Commission Plan Management: Oversee and optimize the end-to-end calculation, validation, and submission of hospice admissions, sales, and clinical incentive/commission plans to accounting and payroll.
  • Incentive Modeling & Impact: Model proposed changes to commission and sales incentive structures to evaluate their projected impact on admissions volume, rep retention, and total corporate spend.
  • Compliance & Audit Support: Ensure all incentive and commission processes uphold strict regulatory compliance standards specific to healthcare and hospice regulations, ensuring complete transparency and data auditability.

Reporting, Business Intelligence & Data Quality

  • Variance & Trend Analysis: Lead the development, analysis, and presentation of monthly performance trends and variance reports (e.g., Actuals vs. Target admissions, revenue, and spend) for senior leadership.
  • Executive Visibility & KPI Tracking: Deliver accurate, timely, and actionable financial and operational KPIs (such as Average Daily Census, Cost per Patient Day, and Admissions volumes) to drive strategic decision-making.
  • Dashboards & Visualizations: Design and maintain dynamic dashboards using BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Excel) to effectively communicate hospice financial health, sales pipeline data, and commission metrics.
  • Data Integrity & Reconciliation: Lead efforts to reconcile CRM (sales/referral), billing, and financial system discrepancies through detailed analysis, driving collaboration with data owners to ensure data quality and consistency.
  • Data Security: Uphold strict confidentiality and safeguard sensitive financial, commercial, and protected health information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA guidelines
