Regenstrief Institute, Inc. is seeking a Data Analyst I to join our creative, intellectually stimulating, open work environment in Regenstrief Data Services (RDS). RDS has been a central resource for electronic healthcare data access for decades, serving both the Regenstrief Institute and Indiana University.
RDS serves as the research resource for all requests for data from the Indiana Network for Patient Care (INPC) and from other specialized sources. The INPC is a large regional health information exchange with more than 17 million unique patients over 30 years with both clinical data (e.g. labs, radiology), as well as payer and government data. This resource is nearly unparalleled for clinical research around the world.
POSITION PURPOSE
The Data Analyst I works in the Data Core group to extract, clean, and manage data elements for research analyses. The Incumbent is HIPAA trained and CITI certified in human subjects research to protect patients’ private health information (PHI).
This position is a hybrid position with at least (1) day of onsite activity based on business needs, this role may be considered remote based on location.
Although this opening is designed for a Data Analyst I candidate, applicants with more or less experience may be considered for alternative roles.
POSITION ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Works with investigators to create custom datasets for large controlled trials and observational studies
- Ensures the safe keeping and handling of protected health information, complying with all required governance and regulations
- Translates research questions into SQL queries to capture the required data as precisely as possible, while adapting to the constraints of real-world data
- Extracts, manipulates, and prepares data for research analyses
- Clearly documents and communicates work done for internal and external audiences
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree with a quantitative or public health focus. Master’s degree in a related field is preferred
- Experience in public health or working with clinical data is preferred
- Proficient in SQL with a solid understanding of relational databases
- 0-2 years of experience in a related field such as data analytics, statistics, data management
- Technology literacy and tool agility
- Strong analytical and independent problem-solving skills
- Professionalism and strong communication with audiences of varying technical ability
- HIPAA training and Human Subject Certification are required upon hiring
Additional Skills/Preferences:
- Is familiar with advanced concepts, practices, and procedures with the following:
- Common statistical packages such as SAS and R
- Data best practices and reproducible workflows
- Electronic healthcare data
- Health research methods including study design
- Data privacy practices and laws

- Basic familiarity with clinical processes, clinical terminology and current challenges in the database(s)
