About the job

The Role

We are seeking a Financial Analyst with strong Excel and analytical skills to support our teams across M&A advisory, fractional CFO engagements, and key firm initiatives. This is a project-based role in a fast-moving environment. Your work will range from building structured Excel analyses and spreadsheets to coordinating data requests, tracking project statuses, and helping prepare concise memos and presentations. You will work with both financial and operational data, from general ledgers to other client and firm datasets, and help turn that information into clear deliverables that support real decisions for SMB clients and our team. Some projects involve untangling incomplete or inconsistent information, while others focus on organizing clean data into useful formats and summaries.

You’ll work closely with experienced CPAs and professionals, gaining exposure to deal work, ongoing advisory relationships, and internal initiatives. We expect there to be a learning curve and will invest in training you. For the right person—someone with knowledge of accounting fundamentals who enjoys working in Excel—this role offers more responsibility, client interaction, and visibility than a typical entry-level position. Overall, this is a strong career opportunity to learn quickly, deepen your technical and financial skills, and contribute meaningfully to real-world outcomes for both business owners and our team’s senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Analysis

  • Perform financial due diligence, including preparing normalized financial statements, cash proofs, and revenue and expense analyses.
  • Build budgets, projections, and KPI reporting deliverables; perform ongoing budget vs. actual and variance analysis to identify key trends and help clients understand drivers of results and potential actions.
  • Prepare financial models and other multi-step analyses, ensuring all components of each deliverable reconcile and tie back to source data.
  • Work directly with clients to gather data, clarify questions about their records, and complete analyses and deliverables based on their input.

Excel and Data Management

  • Determine and build the Excel formulas, logic, and file structure needed to arrive at specific calculations or metrics.
  • Work extensively in Excel to clean, reconcile, and structure messy or incomplete data into usable datasets for analysis, reporting, and system imports.
  • Assist with data imports and migrations into firm systems and software, including extracting, cleansing, and restructuring new data so it can be accurately loaded into standard templates and workflows.

Project & Deal Support

  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to manage information requests, schedule meetings, and keep workstreams moving.
  • Prepare memos and PowerPoint presentations that highlight key metrics, financial models, and findings for decision-makers.
  • Support deal execution, including preparing contract-related schedules and gathering information for other due diligence workstreams.
  • Maintain trackers of open leads and projects so the team has a clear view of status, deadlines, and next steps.

Role Details & Benefits

Team: You’ll report to the M&A Manager.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000, plus individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In special cases, an off-cycle bonus may be considered for exceptional contributions.

Benefits: VFG offers a range of benefits, including 401(k) plan matching, paid time off, holiday pay, medical, dental, vision, long-term disability insurance, and more.
