Pay Type: Salary, Exempt, Full-time

Compensation: The salary for this position ranges from $82,000 to $92,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

Position Summary: The Financial Analyst plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park by providing analytical, reporting, and operational support across accounting, capital tracking, budgeting, and audit functions. Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance, this role partners closely with the finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and timely insights that support organizational decision-making. The position is well-suited for a CPA-credentialed professional with several years of experience who is comfortable balancing analysis with hands-on operational support in a collaborative, nonprofit environment.

Essential Functions

  • Financial Analysis & Reporting
    • Prepare and analyze financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation for internal use and leadership review.
    • Assist with ad-hoc financial analyses, trend identification, and variance explanations.
    • Support the development and maintenance of dashboards and management reporting tools.
  • Capital Tracking & Compliance
    • Track capital expenditures and projects at a detailed level in accordance with organizational capital policies and GAAP
    • Support capital reporting, analysis, and reconciliation activities.
    • Assist with ensuring appropriate capitalization and documentation of equipment and asset purchases.
  • Accounting & Operational Support
    • Provide backup support for AP/AR functions as needed, including invoice processing and payment workflows.
    • Assist with maintaining accurate financial records and supporting month-end and year-end close activities.
    • Support data gathering and documentation for annual audits and other compliance reviews.
  • Budgeting & Planning
    • Assist with budget preparation, monitoring, and periodic updates.
    • Support analysis related to departmental budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Cross-Functional & Team Support
    • Work collaboratively with members of the finance team to support continuity of operations and cross-training.
    • Participate in process improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and / or Qualifications preferred:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
  • Experience: 3-5+ years of relevant professional experience in accounting, finance, or audit.
  • Skills/Knowledge/Licenses:
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation (required). Strong working knowledge of GAAP. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience supporting audits and preparing audit-related documents.
    • Experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
    • Familiarity with NetSuite or similar ERP system
    • Experience with capital project tracking and fixed asset accounting
    • Exposure to budgeting and financial planning processes
    • Experience developing dashboards or management reporting tools
    • Demonstrated interest or experience in process improvement
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
    • Clear written and verbal communication skills
    • Professional judgement and discretion when handling sensitive financial information

Working Conditions: This is largely a sedentary position; however, basic mobility is expected in offices, grounds, and exhibition areas. Ability to observe details at close range and communicate information accurately with others. Engage in occasional object manipulation with or without assistance, and efficiently navigate the workspace to access essential resources. Manage occasional lifting tasks, and ability to handle objects weighing up to 20 pounds with ease and regularity. This job operates in a professional indoor office environment, across grounds, and exhibition areas. Occasionally, may be required to work outdoors under inclement weather conditions.
