Position Overview
We are seeking a mid-level Systems Analyst / Business Analyst to join Merrithew’s Digital Technology team on a 6-month contract, with the possibility of extension based on business needs and performance. Reporting to the VP of Digital Technology, this role partners across the organization to understand how work gets done today and to produce clear, consistent documentation that strengthens alignment, decision-making, and future improvement efforts.
This is a documentation-centric engagement. The primary focus is capturing and standardizing cross-functional workflows, clarifying ownership and handoffs, and translating operational reality into high quality process and requirements artifacts. Success in this role is defined by the quality, clarity, and completeness of the documentation and analysis deliverables produced within the contract term.
Major Responsibilities
- Lead discovery with stakeholders across functions to understand end-to-end workflows, decision points, pain areas, and success measures for assigned initiatives.
- Create clear workflow and handoff representations using standard methods (for example, swim lanes, SIPOC, RACI, BPMN, or equivalent) to enable shared understanding and sign off.
- Deliver documentation artifacts for assigned workstreams, including current and future workflow maps, narrative process documents, and ownership models.
- Identify gaps, bottlenecks, workarounds, data issues, and control weaknesses, then translate findings into practical, prioritized recommendations.
- Translate stakeholder needs into structured, testable requirements and acceptance criteria that inform future solution design and delivery.
- Collaborate with software developers, systems analysts, and infrastructure teams to validate that documentation reflects true system behavior and operational reality.
- Ensure documentation is consistent, version-controlled, and prepared for stakeholder review and approval.
- Facilitate cross-functional alignment on responsibilities and handoffs when workflows span multiple teams.
- Apply a risk-aware lens to analysis, highlighting security, compliance, auditability, and data integrity considerations.
- Track progress against contract milestones, escalating risks and blockers to the VP of Digital Technology.
Skills and Qualifications:
Experience And Core Competencies
- 3 to 7 years of experience in a Systems Analyst, Business Analyst, or Process Analyst role, ideally in a mid-sized or growing organization.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional analysis efforts and drive clarity from ambiguity.
- Strong requirements gathering and translation skills, including writing clear functional requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Demonstrated capability facilitating workshops, interviews, and cross-functional discussions with confidence and diplomacy.
- Solid understanding of how business workflows interact with ERP, CRM, e-commerce, and data platforms. Experience with Microsoft, Salesforce, Sage, or similar ecosystems is an asset.
- Comfortable operating in environments where processes and systems are evolving.
- Demonstrated success in deliverable-driven, time-bound engagements, with the ability to ramp up quickly and produce high quality documentation in environments where processes are not fully defined.
Technical And Analytical Skills
- Skilled in workflow and process modeling tools (Visio, Lucidchart, Miro, Draw.io, or similar).
- Ability to interpret and validate workflows against real system behavior and data; SQL literacy is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with data and analytics concepts such as data quality, master data, lineage, and reporting. Exposure to Power BI, Azure Fabric, or modern data platforms is beneficial.
- Strong problem-solving ability, including root cause analysis and pragmatic solution design.
Communication and Collaboration
- Excellent written communication, with the ability to create clear, structured artifacts for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust quickly with stakeholders at all levels.
- Able to balance persistence with tact to drive outcomes and alignment.
Mindset and Working Style
- Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Curious and systems-minded, with a bias for understanding how things truly work before recommending change.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to move work forward in an iterative, practical way.
- Values security, reliability, and audit readiness as part of solution and workflow design.
